My husband decided to tile our floors himself, not thinking it would be too tough (or time-consuming) a project. After taking more than a month to get partially completed, he's realizing that if he ever wants to re-do a floor again, it'll be carpet (that someone else installs) or super-simple Pergo (no mortaring, grouting, or sealing). After not having enough supplies, having to re-do some tiles, cutting and recutting and re-recutting tiles to fit corners, the project has taken about a month longer than planned. But, we just have one small section to go, and then the old wood laminate will be a faded memory.
In spite of all the mishaps along the way, the final results look pretty good :)
My husband can handle painting, simple handy-man repairs, even HVAC work, but will probably NOT opt to tile a floor ever again.
I think everyone has one of those "Waterloo" repair moments at some time--something that turned out to be bigger than expected and just a little beyond your ability as a DIY'er, one that you're grateful to have completed, but would not do again even if you were paid to.
Happy repairing, restoring, or redoing everyone, and hopefully it goes more smoothly than ours!
